Havana syndrome: war of mind
Havana Syndrome
Doesn’t this sound very much like a Hollywood movie? Spies, gadgets, and bio-wars! That’s what Havana syndrome might be all about, a kind of disease that started spreading from Havana, Cuba. Why did this disease not make much of a buzz in the news? This is because this disease didn’t spread as fast as COVID and did not pass to everyone, yes you read it right, it just happened to the US diplomats in the country, and that’s what raises eyebrows.
2016 Havana, Cuba Multiple US diplomats registered similar complaints, “They are being attacked by a laser-like beam sound.” A lot of similar complaints were registered, people faced problems like illness, dizziness, headache, insomnia, hearing issues, memory loss, and vision troubles. An investigation was done, but nothing could be concluded. Then 1000 cases were registered in different countries by Canadian and US diplomats only, no other country in the world registered a case like this.
As the cases started rising people started talking about it and different theories were developed. 2018, the first theory comes from the University of Michigan, researchers said “ultrasounds of improperly placed Cuban surveillance equipment could have been the origin of sounds reported.
The second theory comes from the University of California theorists who say that the sound recorded by the diplomats matches to the sound of Caribbean cricket.
2019, the third theory comes from Canada, during those times Zika virus was spread in Cuba. Hence, US embassies were frequently treated with chemical sprays, the study believes that the headaches could be a side effect of chemical exposure.
National Academy of Sciences, US, gives us the fourth theory, a study commissioned by the US state department claimed microwave weapons could cause the Havana Syndrome. These weapons work on sonic energies, they aim highly focused energy in a particular direction, these weapons are small and can be easily hidden. This technology was developed by the Soviet Union.
Points to keep in mind are that only US and Canadian diplomats and the cases have been reported in the countries like Cuba, China, and Russia, America’s usual enemies.
CIA, Central Intelligence Agency, investigated these cases and ruled out a lot of cases based on medical history, environmental surroundings, and any other natural cause. But still, many cases, remain unsolved and no possible explanation could be traced. No commonalities among the victims could be found like the same food, travel history, working environment or so. This drives suspicion towards an attack, a hidden war, hence investigations are still going on.

Quite a thorough article. Good job Adi
